Tucson High Magnet School is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came up short against Corona del Sol on Saturday, falling 13-4.
Juan Hernandez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Gabriel Morales also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Basic got the win against Palo Verde on Friday by a conclusive 12-4.
Andruw Giles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Giles was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
In other pitching news, Lincoln Evans looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
Back at the plate, Troy Southisene was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Matthew Kelley was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.
Basic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palo Verde only posted a batting average of .179.
Basic now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Tucson High Magnet School, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tucson High Magnet School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Basic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
