Baseball Recap: Laredo LBJ Has No Trouble Against Economedes

While Laredo LBJ didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-28), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Economedes Jaguars on Thursday as the Laredo LBJ Wolves made off with an 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Leonardo Alvarez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Luis Nino was a standout: he scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Enrique Loyola, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple.

Laredo LBJ always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Economedes only posted an OBP of .211.

Laredo LBJ has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. With the defeat, Economedes broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Laredo LBJ will head out to challenge Vela at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Economedes, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hidalgo at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Economedes is facing Hidalgo at the right time seeing as Hidalgo is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
