Western Illinois Valley - South recap Sept. 26, 2012
Carrollton was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to first in Western Illinois Valley - South. The Hawks beat Calhoun/Brussels 48-0 earlier in the week.
Carrollton extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Warriors, 48-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for Nick Flowers's team.
The Hawks' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jacob Smith threw for 96 and two touchdowns and Luke Palan had 40 yards receiving. On the ground Palan chipped in 141 yards. Jordan Harr helped Carrollton's passing attack out by catching three balls for 32 yards.
Blake Decamp made the biggest impact on defense this week as Pleasant Hill/Western lost to North Greene. The 5-foot-10 junior pulled down one interception.
Carrollton's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Hawks feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 347 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Palan has 11 catches for 158 yards. Palan leads the league in rushing with 443 yards.
A big matchup in Western Illinois Valley - South this week will be when Greenfield/Northwestern takes on Carrollton. The Tigers are in fourth place, while the Hawks are in first place.
There should be lots of points scored when Greenfield/Northwestern and Carrollton face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Tigers comes in having scored 112 this season, while the Hawks have scored 173. Greenfield/Northwestern scored 6 points last week as it fell to West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs].
Carrollton took down Calhoun/Brussels 48-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Smith ran for 27 yards in the win.
