Sunrise Mountain (Peoria, Ariz.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as
Neiman Sneed thew a touchdown to
Elijah Castro with 11:00 left, bringing the team to victory over
Paradise Valley (Phoenix, Ariz.) 57-47.
The Trojans pulled ahead on a touchdown run by
Ryan Finley, and subsequently went into halftime leading 34-21. The Mustangs scored the winning points with a touchdown pass by Sneed to Castro that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring 21 points in the third, Sunrise Mountain still trailed by 5 points going into the fourth quarter. But 15 points in the fourth helped SM pull out the victory.
Finley made a difference for Paradise Valley. The senior quarterback threw four touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
Sneed was the top performer for the Peoria school. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 52-49 win for the Mustangs.
The loss comes after Paradise Valley defeated Arcadia 38-23 last week. With the win Sunrise Mountain extended its winning streak to three games. The loss snapped PV's 3-game winning streak.
Paradise Valley (5-3) goes up against Cactus Shadows in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Sunrise Mountain (7-1) locks horns with Cactus in a III Section II game.
