Pine View is 9-0 against Crimson Cliffs since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Pine View Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Crimson Cliffs Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Pine View is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses.
Last Thursday, Pine View ended up a good deal behind Cedar and lost 60-45. While losing is never fun, Pine View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Cedar is ranked 20th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Reese Gustin, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Casey Morley was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, Crimson Cliffs pushed their score all the way to 58 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hurricane. Crimson Cliffs has not had much luck with Hurricane recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Like Pine View, Crimson Cliffs lost despite seeing results from several players. Colleen Korella led the charge by scoring 23 points along with seven assists and four steals. It was the first time this season that Korella scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsey Plewe, who scored 16 points.
Pine View's loss dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Crimson Cliffs, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Pine View have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 22 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Crimson Cliffs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Pine View was able to grind out a solid victory over Crimson Cliffs when the teams last played back in January, winning 53-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pine View since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
