The Burlington Cougars entered their tilt with the Simla Cubs with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Burlington took down Simla 62-48 on Friday. With that victory, Burlington brought their scoring average up to 50.6 points per game.
Burlington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trinitee Holmes led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lynzee Neal, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Simla saw an underclassman step up: Katie Gotschall scored 15 points along with two steals. Kylie Brickell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Burlington's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Simla, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Burlington won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Calhan at 2:30 p.m. on January 13th. Calhan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 246th, while Burlington is ranked 78th). As for Simla, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Dolores Huerta Prep at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Dolores Huerta Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Saturday.
