Huguenot is 6-1 against the Indians since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Huguenot Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Powhatan Indians at 7:15 p.m. Hopefully Huguenot focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Last Friday, Huguenot had to suffer through a rough 78-48 loss at the hands of the Rapids. While losing is never fun, Huguenot can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while the Rapids are ranked 52nd).
Despite the loss, Huguenot got a solid performance out of Kaemon Smith, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Smith hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Trevion Brown, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Powhatan pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 69-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Clover Hill.
Huguenot has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Powhatan, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Huguenot strolled past the Indians when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 81-67. The rematch might be a little tougher for Huguenot since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
