The Gibbs Gladiators won the last time they faced the Largo Packers, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Gibbs strolled past Largo with points to spare, taking the game 54-35. Given Gibbs' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while Largo is ranked 354th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gibbs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zacoya Grant led the charge by scoring 16 points. Peyton Flournoy was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Despite the loss, Largo still got an impressive performance from Mikayla Paschal, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 42.9% of Largo's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbie Lindfors, who scored four points.
Gibbs pushed their record up to 10-6 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Largo, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gibbs won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Pinellas Park at 8:00 p.m. on January 25th. Allowing an average of 52.9 points per game, Pinellas Park has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this matchup. Largo will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Dunedin at 7:45 p.m. on January 25th.
