After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Chilhowie, Fort Chiswell was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Rural Retreat Indians 7-5. The Pioneers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Indians, too.
Blair Jackson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Jackson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Annalees Kuehl was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Katelyn Frazier was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
The victory got Fort Chiswell back to even at 1-1. As for Rural Retreat, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Looking ahead, Fort Chiswell will challenge Grayson County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rural Retreat, they will take on Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
