Harlingen is 9-1 against Hanna since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cardinals will challenge the Golden Eagles at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Harlingen has four straight wins, Hanna has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Harlingen is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Veterans Memorial 18-3 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Jozalin Bravo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Bravo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Destiny Delgado was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Bethany Hernandez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
Harlingen lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Hanna lost 11-1 to Veterans Memorial on Tuesday.
Hanna saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annett Lopez, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Harlingen's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Hanna, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14-1.
Hanna's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Harlingen has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Hanna, though, as they've been averaging 12 hits. Given Harlingen's sizable advantage in that area, the Golden Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Harlingen took their victory against Hanna when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
