Helena has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Big Sky Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Big Sky took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Helena, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Helena faced Butte in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Helena beat Butte by the very same score they won with last week: 33-7. The result was nothing new for Helena, who have now won four matches by 26 points or more so far this season.
Among those leading the charge was Carter Kraft, who threw for 213 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.4% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Jaxan Lieberg was another key contributor, picking up 51 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Big Sky was beaten by Glacier 56-21 on Thursday. Big Sky was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
Big Sky's loss came about despite a quality game from Joey Sandberg, who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Sandberg's longest rush was for an incredible 83 yards.
Helena's win was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 6-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.6 points per game. Big Sky has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Helena against Big Sky when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 40-3 win. Will Helena repeat their success, or does Big Sky have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
