Beardstown has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against The Calhoun/Brussels Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Beardstown will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 355th, while Calhoun/Brussels is ranked 169th).
Beardstown never got on the board in their last matchup, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against North Greene last Friday. Beardstown came out on top against North Greene by a score of 38-26.
Meanwhile, Calhoun/Brussels had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 51.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They beat Brown County by the very same score they won with last week: 42-0. The result was nothing new for Calhoun/Brussels, who have now won five games by 36 points or more so far this season.
Calhoun/Brussels' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Miles Lorton, who threw for 54 yards and two touchdowns on only five passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Conner Longnecker and his 108 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Calhoun/Brussels' win.
Their wins bumped Beardstown to 4-4 and Calhoun/Brussels to 5-3.
Everything went Beardstown's way against Calhoun/Brussels in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as Beardstown made off with a 36-11 victory. Will Beardstown repeat their success, or does Calhoun/Brussels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
