Fans got a thrill when Austin Schestler and Justin Thomas connected against New Salem/Glen Ullin. The connection was good for 67 yards, the longest such play in A Region 3 this season.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Des Lacs-Burlington beat the Holsteins 25-8. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Des Lacs-Burlington's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Lakers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Schestler has thrown for 836 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Cole Edwards has 17 catches for 299 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Des Lacs-Burlington and Velva. James Johnson's team enters the contest ranked 10th in the state, while the Aggies ranks 14th.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Lakers take on Velva. Des Lacs-Burlington has allowed 83 points this season, while the Aggies have given up 124. The Lakers allowed 8 points last week as they beat New Salem/Glen Ullin.
Velva made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,916 from 6,858. The improvement was largely due to a 27-20 victory over Killdeer/Halliday last week.
