Serenitee Martel was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Faith Brown was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madelin Crowley, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
Fair Haven couldn't beat Otter Valley on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the sixth inning. The Slaters lost 11-4 to the Otters.
Riley Babbie was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits.
At the plate, Brianna Gebo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Fair Haven dropped their record down to 2-9 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Hartford, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-3.
Fair Haven's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hartford has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Fair Haven, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Hartford's sizable advantage in that area, the Slaters will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hartford took their win against Fair Haven in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 9-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hurricanes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
