Softball Recap: Nixon Sets Scoring Season-High Against Roma

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nixon). They put the hurt on the Roma Gladiators with a sharp 18-8 victory on Tuesday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Gladiators recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Giulia Garza made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Eliza Gutierrez was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Delaney Guevara, who scored three runs while going 1-for-5.

Nixon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They are undefeated (7-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Nixon's victory bumped their record up to 12-9-1. As for Roma, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nixon will welcome Palmview at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Palmview will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Nixon surely won't give up without a fight. As for Roma, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rio Hondo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rio Hondo has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.91 runs per game on average), something Roma will no doubt try to take advantage of.
