Northeastern is 0-10 against Mechanicsburg since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Northeastern Jets' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Mechanicsburg Indians at 7:30 p.m. on January 27th. Northeastern will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 745th, while Mechanicsburg is ranked 80th).
Northeastern suffered their biggest defeat since December 20, 2023 on Monday. They were dealt a 57-28 defeat at the hands of Madison Plains. Northeastern was down 46-22 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jaelynn Bobst, who scored eight points along with two steals and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Pollock, who scored three points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Mechanicsburg came tearing into Saturday's game with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 55-26 victory over Fairbanks. Mechanicsburg has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 22 points or more this season.
Northeastern's loss was their 16th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-15. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.1 points per game. As for Mechanicsburg, their win bumped their record up to 15-1.
Northeastern was taken down by Mechanicsburg 74-17 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Northeastern was down 40-8.
