Mesquite and Saguaro are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. Mesquite will face off against Saguaro at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Mesquite is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Mesquite gave up the first runs last Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Eastmark by a score of 8-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Mesquite got a great performance from Aidan Stenberg as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Stenberg has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kash Rogers was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. Kolby Noehren also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Saguaro got themselves on the board against ALA - Queen Creek on Friday, but ALA - Queen Creek never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Patriots. The win continues a trend for the Sabercats in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.
The result came thanks to Nate Wachinski's shutout, as he gave up just four hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kasen Williams, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Taichi Ebino was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Saguaro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ALA - Queen Creek only posted a batting average of .182.
Mesquite's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Saguaro, their record is now 7-5-1.
Saguaro's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mesquite has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. It's a different story for Saguaro, though, as they've only averaged .354. Will they be able to contain Mesquite's hitters?
Mesquite suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Saguaro in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Mesquite avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
