Perkins is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will welcome the Columbian Tornadoes at 4:45 p.m. Perkins is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Last Monday, Perkins earned a 9-4 win over Willard. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Crimson Flashes recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Jayden Baingana looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dylan Crabtree, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Souter, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and one stolen base.
Perkins hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Willard struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, Columbian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 13-4 to Huron.
Jaxon Little was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs but no hits. Little was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Isaiah Tilse made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Jamison Woessner also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Columbian's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Perkins, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Columbian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Perkins has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. It's a different story for Columbian, though, as they've only averaged .347. Will they be able to contain Perkins' hitters?
Perkins skirted past Columbian 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Tornadoes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
