If the Fitchburg Red Raiders were riding high off their 62-36 takedown of the North Polar Bears on December 8th, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Fitchburg took a 48-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Amesbury on Thursday.
Amesbury found their leader in underclassman Celia Tavares, who scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellison Talbot, who scored nine points.
Fitchburg bumped their record down to 1-1 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.3 points per game. As for Amesbury, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Fitchburg will be playing in front of their home fans against Worcester Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Amesbury, they will head out on the road to face off against Georgetown at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
