Person is 0-6 against Morehead since March of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Person Rockets are taking a road trip to take on the Morehead Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Person is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Morehead will be up against a hot Person squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Person came out on top against Western Alamance by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday. Five seems to be a good number for the Rockets as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Keeghan Holmes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Person is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise. Holmes was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Ian Downey looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brennen Kiser, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Young, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Morehead came up short against Northern Guilford on Saturday, falling 11-1. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Morehead saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reece Dunovant, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
Person pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Morehead, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Morehead's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Person hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Morehead, though, as they've only averaged .173. Will they be able to contain Person's hitters?
Person couldn't quite get it done against Morehead in their previous meeting back in June of 2021 as they fell 7-4. Can Person avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
