There's no place like home for The Gloucester Fishermen, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. Everything went their way against Beverly on Friday as Gloucester made off with a 42-21 victory. The win was just what Gloucester needed coming off of a 28-7 loss in their prior contest.
John Gucciardi was a one-man wrecking crew for Gloucester as he rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also threw for 212 yards and four touchdowns while completing 86.7% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Cameron Widtfeldt, who gained 47 total yards and two touchdowns.
Gloucester's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Beverly and 0-8 Somerville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 18.2% over those games). As for Beverly, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Gloucester will head out on the road to face off against Hanover at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Hanover's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last seven matches. As for Beverly, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Revere at 1:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Massachusetts (Revere is ranked 202nd, while Beverly is ranked 190th).
