The Litchfield Purple Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. Their rough 50-25 loss to Taylorville might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Litchfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 606th, while Taylorville is ranked 48th).
Several Purple Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emma Diveley, who scored nine points along with three steals. That was a full 36% of Litchfield's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kyndal Law was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Litchfield struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-3) when they just don't pass the ball.
Litchfield has been struggling recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-21 record this season. As for Taylorville, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which somehow isn't as good as their 18-5 record this season.
Litchfield will head out on the road to face off against Pana at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Pana focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday. As for Taylorville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lincoln is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
