The El Dorado Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 60-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wellington. While losing is never fun, El Dorado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while Wellington is ranked 94th).
Despite the loss, El Dorado still got an impressive performance from Logan Garner, who scored 27 points along with seven steals. Garner scored a full 49.1% of El Dorado's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Tre Fanklin, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, El Dorado were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
El Dorado bumped their record down to 1-4 with that loss, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Wellington, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Dorado will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Collegiate at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. As for Wellington, they will head out on the road to face off against Winfield at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Winfield comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
