Meanwhile, Fleming Island hadn't done well against Oakleaf recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Fleming Island put the hurt on Oakleaf with a sharp 8-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Mallory Blackwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emma Massey was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Sikes, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
The victory made it two in a row for Fleming Island and bumps their season record up to 7-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Bishop Snyder, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bishop Snyder hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Fleming Island struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
