East hasn't had much luck against Downingtown West recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Vikings will host the Whippets at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (East 3.2, Downingtown West 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Downingtown West will be up against a hot East squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Vikings walked away with a 4-1 victory over Plymouth Whitemarsh on Wednesday.
Ferri Ava spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cross Daria, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Caelyn Rodriguez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Downingtown West never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Bishop Shanahan as they made off with a 14-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Whippets, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Addison Carter looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ava Kaczmarski was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Casey McWilliams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Downingtown West has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for East, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.
