The Overhills Jaguars will challenge the Pine Forest Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Overhills is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Overhills couldn't beat South Columbus last Monday even though they stacked six runs on them in the sixth inning. The Jaguars fell just short of the Stallions by a score of 10-9.
Darren Ludwick made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Houston Poole, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Pine Forest ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Western Harnett 7-6. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Ja'Lynn Thomas, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Pine Forest is undefeated when Thomas posts two or more stolen bases, but 10-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Geske, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one RBI.
Pine Forest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Overhills' defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Pine Forest, their win bumped their record up to 14-11.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Overhills has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. However, it's not like Pine Forest struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Overhills came out on top in a nail-biter against Pine Forest when the teams last played on April 10th, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
