Jonathan Rudd made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Memphis Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was James Bernard, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Overton). Everything went their way against Kingsbury on Monday as they made off with a 27-17 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wolverines as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Maikol Fuentes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fuentes was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off four runs, two triples, and four RBI while going 4-for-6. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Jercorion Wesley looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Overton let Marquel Brooks and Jeremiah Haynes run wild. Brooks went 4-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases, while Haynes got on base in four of his six plate appearances with seven stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Brooks has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Cristian Gomez was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Overton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Overton now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Memphis Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Memphis Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Overton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 14.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Memphis Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Overton in their previous matchup two weeks ago, winning 7-4. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
