Independent School recap October 8, 2013
Thayer Academy's DeVon King rumbled for the longest rushing play in Independent School this season in his game against Groton School last week. King scampered for 69 yards on the play and finished with 171 on the day as his team lost to Groton School.
Fans got a thrill when Jack Becker and Sam Murphy connected against John Lyons' team. The connection was good for 63 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Thayer Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Becker threw for 175 and 2 touchdowns and Brendan Ford had 68 yards receiving. On the ground King contributed 171 yards. Murphy helped Thayer Academy's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 63 yards.
Becker put up the best numbers in passing as Jeff Toussaint's team lost to Groton School. Becker's favorite target this week was Ford, who caught 2 passes for 68 yards.
Thayer Academy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Becker has thrown for 514 yards and 5 touchdowns this season, while Conor O'Brien has 11 catches for 157 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when St. Paul's takes on Governor's Academy. At the moment, St. Paul's is in eighth, while the Governors are in third.
Groton School scaled the state rankings by moving to 48 from 246 this week, the biggest jump in Independent School. Groton School was able to move up by besting the Tigers 26-24.
