Softball Recap: Sunset Has No Trouble Against Tigard

Sunset barely beat Tigard the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Apollos blew past the Tigers 14-0 on Friday. The Apollos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Emily Belisle made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sunset let Keana Cooper and Claire Townsend run wild. Cooper went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Townsend went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Townsend has posted since back in March of 2025. Shelby Townsend was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Sunset pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Tigard, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Sunset will venture away from home to square off against Glencoe at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Apollos 2.8, the Tide 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Tigard, they are taking a road trip to take on Sherwood at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bowmen have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
