Even though the McCutcheon Mavericks scored an imposing 55 points on Friday, the Marion Giants still came out on top. Marion took down McCutcheon 73-55. Given Marion's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while McCutcheon is ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Marion to victory were Tim Jones and Jaymen Townsend. Jones scored 24 points along with two steals, while Townsend scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Amar Rogers, who scored 12 points.
McCutcheon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brody Baker, who scored 19 points along with six assists. Brody Raeke was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, McCutcheon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Marion's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11. As for McCutcheon, their loss dropped their record down to 3-14.
Marion will head out on the road to challenge Harrison at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for McCutcheon, they and Frankfort will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. McCutcheon is on a five-game streak of home losses, Frankfort a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
