The Eastland Mavericks came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Millsap 64-48. Given Eastland's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 164th, while Millsap is ranked 558th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Millsap lost, one person who can't be blamed is Claire Dale. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. That was a full 35.4% of Millsap's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Berkli Sims was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Eastland is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. As for Millsap, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-15.
Eastland will be playing at home against Breckenridge at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Breckenridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Tuesday. As for Millsap, they will head out on the road to square off against Dublin at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Dublin is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
