The Brattleboro Bears will head out to challenge the Mount Anthony Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Brattleboro's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Mount Anthony's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Brattleboro is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Vermont's top teams: Hartford, who was ranked 17th at the time (Brattleboro was ranked eighth). Sean Cozza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Cozza was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Brattleboro is undefeated when Cozza posts three or more RBI, but 1-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Bogart, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Derek Sage also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Mount Anthony came out on top against Mount Greylock Regional on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Patriots were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Mounties. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.
Jacoby Dicranian was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Talin Bartholdi, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Mount Anthony and bumps their season record up to 6-2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Brattleboro, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Everything went Brattleboro's way against Mount Anthony when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Brattleboro made off with a 9-3 win. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
