The Freeburg Midgets fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Charleston Trojans on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 27-24. Freeburg's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Freeburg still got an impressive performance from Cole Stuart, who rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Stuart was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 69 yards.
Among those leading the charge was Luke Bonnstetter, who rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 190 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Roe also helped out with an impressive 95 receiving yards.
Freeburg's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Charleston, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Freeburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Charleston will head out on the road to face off against Murphysboro at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Murphysboro will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
