Basketball Recap: Carl Hayden Community Takes a Loss

It was a good run, but Carl Hayden Community unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 66-65 to the Liberty Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 76th in Arizona, while the Patriots are ranked tenth in Nevada).

Despite the defeat, Carl Hayden Community had strong showings from Joseph Lindsay Jr., who went 6 for 12 on his way to 23 points in addition to five assists and five boards, and Tion Wright, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Lindsay Jr. has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Prince Cash was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Carl Hayden Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Dante Steward, who went 10 of 23 on his way to 23 points along with eight boards and three steals for Liberty. The dominant performance gave Steward a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Riley, who posted 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Carl Hayden Community's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Liberty, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-5.

Carl Hayden Community wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 50-48 defeat against Mountain View on the 3rd. As for Liberty, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-64 victory against Cathedral Catholic on the 3rd.
