Fullerton is 9-1 against St. Edward since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Fullerton Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the St. Edward Beavers at 7:30 p.m. Fullerton will be strutting in after a victory while St. Edward will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Saturday, Fullerton was fully in charge, breezing past Heartland Lutheran 48-21 on the road. Fullerton pushed the score to 35-13 by the end of the third, a deficit Heartland Lutheran had little chance of recovering from.
Fullerton can attribute much of their success to Nolan Dubas, who scored 17 points along with six steals, and Kane Wetovick, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Dubas hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Terrick Gonsior was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 19-19 at halftime, St. Edward was not quite High Plains' equal in the second half on Monday. They had to suffer through a rough 64-24 loss at the hands of the Storm. St. Edward has not had much luck with High Plains recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
St. Edward's loss came about despite a quality game from Anthony Reader, who scored 14 points.
Fullerton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. As for St. Edward, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Fullerton have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. Edward struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Fullerton's way against St. Edward in their previous matchup back in January as Fullerton made off with a 64-43 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Reader, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Fullerton still be able to contain Reader? There's only one way to find out.
