2A-1 Region II District 6 recap Nov. 7, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Farmersville, who took down 377th ranked Commerce, 36-28.
The Farmers moved up to 495 from 554 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region II District 6. Farmersville climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Tigers 36-28.
Howe's dynamic duo of Ryan Haines and Travis Jones proved tough for Van Alstyne to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Haines threw for 220 yards and two touchdowns and Jones had 174 yards receiving. Garrette Griffin helped Howe's passing attack out by catching two balls for 37 yards.
Ryan Cottingame was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 62 yards as Sunnyvale fell to the Panthers. Stephen Kirven also contributed to the rushing game with eight yards on the ground.
6-foot-4 quarterback Cottingame of Sunnyvale is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1812. He has also thrown 16 touchdowns. On the ground, Caddo Mills's Daxx Hill has rushed for 1212 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dallas Sewell. The Pottsboro star has 37 catches for 968 yards.
John Settle's team's Cottingame is within 188 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Howe.
A big matchup in 2A-1 Region II District 6 this week will be when Joe Watson's team takes on Sunnyvale. The Bulldogs are in sixth place, while Sunnyvale is in second place.
Pottsboro extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sunnyvale, 51-7. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Cardinals.
