Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Laurel walked away with it. They blew past the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets 35-0 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won nine contests by 29 points or more so far this season.
Laurel got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kolton Carlson out in front who rushed for 91 yards and one TD on only eight carries, and also picked up 43 receiving yards. Carlson's longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Ethan Hamilla also deserves some recognition as he hauled in his first receiving touchdowns of the season.
Laurel didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tony Geiwitz and Josh Sherman.
Laurel pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.7 points on average over those games. As for Jefferson-Morgan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-3 record this season.
As of now, neither Laurel nor Jefferson-Morgan have any future games scheduled.
