Penns Manor hasn't had much luck against Cambria Heights recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Comets will take on the Highlanders at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Penns Manor is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over United on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Comets.
Macey Pegg made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Pegg was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Penns Manor got a massive performance out of Joss Bennet, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Kadence Olbert also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Penns Manor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .591. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Cambria Heights had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Indians as they made off with an 11-1 win.
Cambria Heights also got a great performance from Rylee Lane as she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Lane has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cambria Heights let Ellie Bender and Meghan Wholaver run wild. Bender went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Wholaver went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylie Bradley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
Cambria Heights pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Penns Manor, their record now sits at 5-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Penns Manor has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cambria Heights struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Penns Manor might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Cambria Heights when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
