The San Marin Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Marin Catholic Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The last seven games San Marin has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Last Friday, San Marin had just enough and edged out Cardinal Newman 5-3.
Taylor Testa made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.
Testa wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leah Cronin, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Cronin has posted since back in April of 2024. Samantha Whitlock also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Marin Catholic earned an 8-3 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Fightin' Irish: they've now won five in a row.
Malliah Foster spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Marin Catholic got a massive performance out of Anna Held, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Carlson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Marin Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory only posted a batting average of .267.
San Marin's record is now 4-2. As for Marin Catholic, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Everything went San Marin's way against Marin Catholic in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as San Marin made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Marin since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
