The Manvel Mavericks pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Santa Fe. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Manvel came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while Santa Fe is ranked 777th).
Santa Fe got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaidan Mata out in front who scored 19 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mata has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ryland Chambless, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds.
Manvel's defeat dropped their record down to 11-16. As for Santa Fe, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-15.
Manvel will head out on the road to face off against Texas City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Texas City will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Santa Fe will take on La Porte at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in La Porte's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
