The First Coast Buccaneers will square off against the Stanton Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. First Coast is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, First Coast beat Sandalwood 4-1. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Saints: they've now won five in a row.
Lynneisa Whittington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brooke Edmonds was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She also stole a stolen base, marking her first of the season. Kyrie Camarce was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Stanton made easy work of Ribault on Thursday and carried off a 20-5 win. That's two games straight that the Blue Devils have won by exactly 15 runs.
Leah Joseph was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Maddie Hicks and Shakira Diaz did most of the damage at the plate: Hicks scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Diaz went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Evie Moore, who scored three runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Stanton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .867. The last time their OBP was this high was since the start of last season.
The victory made it two in a row for Stanton and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 15 runs. As for First Coast, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
First Coast took their victory against Stanton in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 15-0. Does First Coast have another victory up their sleeve, or will Stanton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
