The Kokomo Wildkats will head out on the road to face off against the Mississinewa Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Kokomo got themselves on the board against Marion, but Marion never followed suit. They really took it to the Giants for the full four quarters, racking up a 35-0 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Kokomo, who have now won five games by 35 points or more so far this season.
Darrian Story Jr. went supernova for Kokomo, rushing for 182 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Story Jr. really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run.
Meanwhile, Mississinewa put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Columbia City with points to spare, taking the game 31-15.
Deakon Dilts was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 52 receiving yards. Mississinewa also got a significant boost from Ah'lijah Monday, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 101 yards.
The victory makes it two in a row for Kokomo and bumps their season record up to 9-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 3-8 Marion and 4-6 Jay County. As for Mississinewa, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 11-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Kokomo has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 231.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mississinewa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 157.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Kokomo against Mississinewa in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 44-13 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Mississinewa's Hayden Nelson, who rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Kokomo to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
