The Coosa Christian Conquerors will head out on the road to face off against the Victory Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Coosa Christian has three straight wins, Victory Christian has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Coosa Christian put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 51-0 victory over Woodville. 51 seems to be a good number for Coosa Christian as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
John-david Justus was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Justus hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for five straight games. Coosa Christian also got a significant boost from Joseph East, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.
Meanwhile, Victory Christian suffered a tough 53-28 loss at the hands of Winterboro on Thursday.
Victory Christian's loss came about despite a quality game from Shepard Sargent, who rushed for 215 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Sargent definitely has the trust of the coaching staff as he's now carried the ball at least 25 times in the last three games he's played.
With Coosa Christian's win and Victory Christian's loss, both teams now sport identical 4-5 records.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Coosa Christian has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 224.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Victory Christian struggles in that department as they've been even better at 241.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Coosa Christian against Victory Christian when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 43-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Coosa Christian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
