The Wesley Chapel Wildcats had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past Mitchell with points to spare, taking the game 58-40. That's another feather in the cap for Wesley Chapel, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Wesley Chapel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dayla Christopher led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. Christopher hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanai Forrester-Jhagroo, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Wesley Chapel's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Mitchell, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.
Wesley Chapel will look to defend their home court on Monday against Sunlake at 7:30 p.m. As for Mitchell, Mitchell and Nature Coast Tech will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Nature Coast Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday.
