It was another big night for Jamie Dance, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tristan Peterson, who posted ten points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.
Currituck County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Washington County made easy work of Pasquotank County last Friday and carried off an 87-66 win. Washington County pushed the score to 62-38 by the end of the third, a deficit Pasquotank County cut but never quite recovered from.
Currituck County better focus on containing Christian Phelps and Brandon Carter Jr. as the pair were huge in Washington County's win. Phelps dropped a double-double on 27 points and 18 rebounds, while Carter Jr. almost dropped a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Carter Jr. has scored at least a third of Washington County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of ZyQuan Sanders, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points.
Currituck County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Washington County, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Currituck County and Washington County are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Currituck County hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 64.9 points per game. However, it's not like Washington County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 80.3 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Currituck County came up short against Washington County when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 57-46. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Carter Jr., who went 7 of 11 on his way to 21 points along with six boards and three steals. Now that Currituck County knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
