For the first time this season, Scripps Ranch will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to challenge the University City Centurions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Scripps Ranch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Scripps Ranch is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Academy of Our Lady of Peace just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost 10-4 to the Pilots. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Falcons have suffered since April 12, 2024.
Sienna Cole was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for University City, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past San Diego 11-1 on Monday. The Centurions not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since February 27th.
Melia Galvan spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, University City let Addyson Weathers and Samantha Weathers run wild. Addyson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Samantha scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Samantha a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Castillo, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
University City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Diego only posted a batting average of .174.
The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 6-4. As for University City, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-9-1.
Scripps Ranch beat University City 7-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
