Not much got past Reese R Wells, who gave up just six hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep New Riegel off the board. R Wells has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 30 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kaylee K Wells was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Maplewood sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Newark Catholic on Friday.
Addison Marker was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 23 batters over 13 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those 23 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-6 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lexi Yannucci, who got on base in three of her seven plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Claire Urchek was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Maplewood lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Maplewood's win bumped their record up to 27-2. As for Southeastern Local, their victory bumped their record up to 29-3.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Southeastern Local has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .452.
