Mathis had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 6-5 to make it four. They fell just short of the King Brahmas by a score of 11-10. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 16-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.

Leilani Cantu was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Audrey Salinas was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Marivel Martinez, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
As for King, they moved to 11-10 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
On King's side, Harley Garcia spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Victoria Figueroa was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Xzianna Elizondo was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Looking ahead, Mathis will challenge Banquete at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for King, they are taking a road trip to face off against Raymondville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
