East Valley recap November 13, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Jonathon Porter and Isaiah Gable connected against Chavez. The connection was good for 85 yards, the longest such play in East Valley this season.
Verdugo Hills moved up to 776 from 818 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Dons were able to move up by beating North Hollywood 62-39.
Arleta's dynamic duo of Porter and Gable proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Porter threw for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns and Gable had 167 yards receiving. Kevin Moore helped Arleta's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 124 yards.
DALESHAWN JACKSON provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Grant beat Canoga Park. He completed 11 passes for 192 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 106 yards. JACKSON's key target this week was SHERMAN CROMARTIE, who caught 6 passes for 132 yards.
DRAKE A CALDWELL was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Lancers defeated the Hunters. The 5-foot-10 senior recorded 1 fumble.
Verdugo Hills' Mark Powell and Carter Otte led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Powell has thrown for 2,210 yards this season, while Otte has 59 catches for 1,090 yards. CHRISTOPHER C GENTRY from Grant leads the league in rushing with 826 yards.
The Mustangs' Moore is only 64 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the Carson. So far this year, he has garnered 45 catches for 936 yards.
Chavez lost to Arleta 56-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
