Shawnee Heights has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against The Leavenworth PIONEERS at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shawnee Heights will be strutting in after a win while Leavenworth will be coming in after a defeat.
After only 12 points in their last matchup, Shawnee Heights made sure to put some points up on the board against West on Friday. Shawnee Heights took their match at home with ease, bagging a 62-12 win over West. Given Shawnee Heights' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 47th, while West is ranked 175th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shawnee Heights' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryeki Tuley led the charge by throwing for 145 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Jacob Malcom also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Leavenworth's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 10-0 to Piper. The game was a 0-0 toss-up at halftime, but Leavenworth couldn't answer the 10 points Piper scored afterwards.
Shawnee Heights' win was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 5-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.4 points per game. As for Leavenworth, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Shawnee Heights came up short against Leavenworth in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 24-19. Can Shawnee Heights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
